The referral gap
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, and diet is one of the few risk factors patients can change themselves. Most need more than a handout to do it.
Lifestyle programs that exist are often long, expensive, or hard to find locally. A simple group program near home lowers the bar.
What you get
- A referral pad and a patient-friendly page that explains the program in plain words.
- For health coaches: the coordinator kit to run your own cohorts.
- Materials that consistently tell patients to keep their care team informed and never to stop medication on their own.
WPU is in pre-launch. Materials are in draft, and founding partners help shape them before they open to everyone.

The evidence
What the research says
-
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the US.
-
In a small 5-year trial, intensive lifestyle changes including a very low-fat vegetarian diet led to modest regression of coronary artery narrowing, while it progressed in the control group.
Questions
Is WPU a medical program?
No. It's an education and behavior-change program that supports, and never replaces, clinical care.
Can health coaches lead cohorts?
Yes. Certified health coaches are a natural fit for the coordinator role.
